Tricon Development – Contribution to the Style and Quality that is the Inner Loop
As many homeowners in the loop have lamented, the future of some of the area’s new houses and town homes is dubious, to say the least. They may look OK now, but how about five, 10 or 20 years from now? That is exactly why all of us should be applauding the excellence, style and attention to detail found in the homes constructed by Tricon Development. Jose and Tristan Berlanga, owners of Tricon Homes, immigrated to Houston over fifteen years ago from Mexico. They both came here to start a better life. They are both immigrants who deeply appreciate what the U.S. has to offer,
You can have talent, great ideas, energy and be willing to work very hard but, in other parts of the world, those qualities still won’t get you anywhere. Here, in the U.S. those same qualities are greatly rewarded.”
Jose Berlanga
Jose and Tristan started Tricon Developers in 1997 and realized right from the start that they needed to specialize. They now focus on single-family residence in the inner loop. ‘Their company has grown from a two-man shop to one with annual billings of $30 million, projected for this year. Despite a growing volume of business, or perhaps because of it, the brothers are at work, 24/7.
As the architect, Tristan personally oversees as much as humanly possible. He selects sites, determines designs, finishes, oversees the construction and even does the marketing. While Jose keeps a close eye on the finances. “We’re in it for the long run,” states Jose. “We stand behind our products. I don’t just build a house and walk away. After all, we are not just builders to our customers, we’re neighbors,” concludes the inner-looper. “There’s no sense of accomplishment like taking a piece of property that is contributing absolutely nothing to the community, visualizing it’s potential, and then making it happen,” says Tristan. “It’s the ‘before and after’ that I find so intriguing.”
A dream the brothers share is to eventually provide more variety and styles of homes. “I’d love to be able to offer what we do to lower-income buyers,” says Tristan. Imagine – a developer with the dream of charging less to serve families with fewer advantages. It speaks volumes about the hearts of these two businessmen. In the meantime, the future looks bright for Tricon’s Developers. Jose and Tristan wouldn’t have it any other way. They are both optimistic by nature, especially in a town with so much growth and potential, and in a country with so much opportunity.
